In Her Opinion: Trunk Club

stswy-momicon

I learned about Trunk Club many months back.  Having some help on the fashion front would be a fantastic help to me and when I learned a friend tried it and loved it, I wanted to share it with you! Info is at the bottom to contact her rep and to check out the info online.

Trunk Club
“I wanted to share something with you that I did recently and thought was really cool.

Trunk Club is a clothing service located in Deep Ellum and owned by Nordstrom, for super busy people who don’t have time to shop — or just don’t have the desire or fashion-ability to update their on wardrobes on a consistent basis (that’s me!). I did it last week, and had a great experience, so thought some of you might want to try it too!
My stylist, Helen, is precious, and she did a great job of learning more about me, my likes/dislikes, personal taste and style, etc. and she chose so many great options that I ended up purchasing most of them! The cool thing is that if you don’t like anything, there is zero catch, and you don’t have to buy a thing. If you like some, great, and if you like them all – then even better! She can also go back to the drawing board for alternate sizes, styles, colors, and can help you put outfits together that maybe you hadn’t thought of. If you have a budget or want to stay within a certain range, just tell her and she’ll stick to that. If you have brands you love, tell her what they are, and she can shop within the outline of your personal preferences.
Helen met me at my home and even helped me clean out my closet (at no charge), sifting through every item to assist in making a decision on what I should keep/sell/donate. She can also send a box of clothes to your home, or you can meet her at their Dallas space. She also works with men for both casual and dress clothes. I’m definitely going to use her for James’ wardrobe as well.
I literally have zero time to shop, let alone think about what I’m wearing from one day to the next (or to business meetings, events, etc.) so this is a SUPER helpful and easy option for me. Hope you like it too!

In Her Opinion: Cozi

stswy-momiconCozi
Ask my husband or closest friends about our schedule and they will make a joke about our shared Google calendar.  But I think they make fun because they wish they had something so easy to use to keep up with all of the activities they have to keep up with as a family.  Mom’s schedule, Dad’s schedule, kid schedules, school is closed, holidays, there is just too much.  We are a family of three but one Mom I know has many more schedules to track and she found a great way to stay super organized.

cozi“Parties, doctor appointments and play dates, oh My! Too many kids and not enough TIME!

So, I am a stay at home mom of 4 busy young children (ages 10,9,7 and 7). Between their stuff, my stuff and my husband’s, its enough to make anyone’s head spin. COZI to the rescue! I discovered this App a few years ago and it has changed our lives. It is a color coded calendar where each person has a different color assigned to their activities. You can look at the calendar for each person or the entire family at once. The app is FREE and available on iPhones and Android devices. You can also look at your calendar online at cozi.com and it all syncs together. So, my husband can add something from work or can easily see if there is a conflict without having to ask me. It’s really been a life saver for our family.”

In Her Opinion: Why is Everyone Talking about Oils?

stswy-momicon“What is the deal with all the talk about essential oils?”
by Jennifer Helms(Married with two kids, ages 12 and 7)

“Okay, what is the deal with all the talk about essential oils?  Are they air fresheners?  Medicine? Perfume?  A scam?  Hopefully, I can help you unravel the mystery.

First, a little background on how I learned about essential oils.  Our son struggles with certain developmental delays and deficits and we have spent years working with medical professionals and therapists to help him.  During this process, I learned that the best way to help my son was to become the main source of all knowledge regarding his treatment.  I was (and am) his greatest advocate, which means I am an expert researcher on my son and all aspects of his health.  Now fortunately, I am a researcher by trade – so these skills come easily to me.  I have spent endless hours researching and reading articles and books, organizing material and information, and discussing my son’s health and development with medical and health professionals.

One of the most important things I have learned through this process is how important it is to reduce our exposure to toxic chemicals and alleviate the toxic burden on our cells.  I learned that just because I grew up eating Twinkies, M&Ms and McDonald’s does not make it safe.  I learned that just because the stores sell ammonia and bleach for housecleaning does not make them safe.  I learned that we are surrounded by toxic chemicals everyday – from the pesticides on the foods we eat to the hottest new beauty products we slather on our skin.  I learned that the chemicals in our sunscreen and our cleaning products and our shampoos are easily absorbed into our skin – and our cells must detoxify these environmental toxins from our body.  Similarly, chemicals in our foods and medications put a toxic burden on our cells.  The build-up of these toxins in our bodies has been linked to infertility, asthma, heart disease and cancer.  Toxic chemicals are especially harmful to children whose bodies are much smaller and are still developing.

While I learned it is impossible to completely avoid toxic chemicals, I also learned there are EASY things I can change to significantly reduce my family’s exposure and the levels of toxicity in our bodies.

In the process of researching how to detoxify our home, I stumbled upon some information about the effectiveness of essential oils.  Then, while researching ways to help our son alleviate his extreme anxiety, I stumbled upon some more information about essential oils – specifically therapeutic-grade essential oils.  At the time, these high quality oils were difficult for me to find.  So I began researching what kind to get and how to get them.  I decided I wanted to purchase Young Living brand oils because they were reported to be of the highest quality.  After talking to a friend of a friend, I finally found a lovely and super-intelligent mother who used and sold Young Living oils and was willing to explain what these oils are and how they work.  My son and I went to meet her and she taught us that plants produce compounds that can provide therapeutic benefits to humans in a variety of ways.  Plant extracts and essential oils have been used effectively since the beginning of time to kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses, to cure all kinds of maladies, and to stimulate tissue and nerve regeneration.  The exquisite fragrances of essential oils also have been known to balance mood, lift spirits, and dispel negative emotions.

Sign us up!  My son and I ordered a Premium Starter Kit from Young Living.  It came with a diffuser plus a variety of oils and a book with instructions on how to use them.

Over the last year and a half, I have experimented with these oils in a multitude of ways.  First, I got rid of all toxic cleaning supplies and replaced them with non-toxic products like vinegar, water, and essential oils.  These products clean everything!  I no longer have a single chemical cleaning product in our house and our house is truly spick-and-span and safe for anyone who enters.

I got rid of many medicines one-by-one as I experimented with their essential oil counterparts.  We have used these essential oils (with success) for everything from cleaning cuts and scrapes to pain relief, to leg cramps, to psoriasis.  Amazing.

We put a diffuser in our son’s room and most nights he adds water and a few drops of oil to the diffuser, turns the machine on, and inhales the diffused oils which can stimulate feelings of calmness, relaxation, sleepiness, and well-being.

We replaced our soaps, shampoos, and lotions with safe substitutes using essential oils.

Now, this may sound overwhelming.  I literally began learning about this exactly two years ago.  Remind yourself that detoxifying your home and life is a marathon, not a sprint. Every incremental change you make matters!”

In Her Opinion: Stella & Dot

stswy-momiconStella & Dot
Recently I posted about Stitch Fix, a service made up of online personal stylists that send items specifically for you based on all of your own style preferences.  I have a love for jewelry so I thought I would share another great shopping option.  Have you heard of Stella & Dot?  Of course you have.

“Hmmmm, how to review Stella & Dot??? Love? Yup, pretty much. When my friend Kelli introduced me to S&D, I was kind of like ‘shoot, another crazy jewelry company that I’ll have to pretend to think is awesome.’ Oh, so wrong! I adore their simple designs and charms – they’re prefect for me! I don’t wear a ton of jewelry, mainly just simple earrings and necklaces. Kelli showed me how to mix up charms and add another necklace here and there that pulled things together really well for me! I’ve got a few of S&D’s statement pieces that I’m getting braver with too… Again, thanks to Kelli for that! We would see each other and she would have some gorgeous necklace or earrings on with jeans and a t-shirt and would look amazing! I never would have thought to do that! Love the ideas! At the last party I had, Kelli swept in, set up, added a necklace to what I had on and the party took off from there! Her no pressure attitude is the BEST! It makes things more like just hanging out with your favorite women and oh, look, sparkly fun things to try on! And Kel’s giveaways?! So awesome. It’s ALWAYS something I’m dying to win. I’m not sure how she does it. But, really, she’s the best!”

-Jamie, Dallas mom, married with one daughter, runner, sometimes crossfitter, lover of wine and fun

“I have something I want to share with you! One of my new favorite places to find trendy and classic accessories; Stella & Dot! When I was invited to my first party about 2 years ago, I fell in love! Gorgeous, beautiful, classy, trendy, sparkly, bold, and everything in between, JEWELRY! From statement necklaces, to the perfect stud earring, there it was. Looking for a great scarf to jazz up an outfit? Stella & Dot has it. Need a fabulous carry all bag or a clutch for night out? Stella & Dot has it. Everything is done just right with the perfect amount of flair and bling. I was HOOKED! My Stylist, Kelli Geyer, is AMAZING! Kelli is so kind and so much fun. She was fully prepared with TONS of fun baubles displayed for everyone’s pleasure. She had great suggestions on how to pair the jewelry with different outfits/looks and knew how each item was unique by showing it’s versatility. Who doesn’t love to play dress up? I felt like a kid again trying on mom’s jewelry box. I must have tried on every piece of jewelry at least twice. It’s so hard to make a decision…in a good way! Before leaving, I decided I wanted to host party of my own. It’s the perfect excuse to have girlfriends over, drink some wine, and feel a little fancy! Not only did I have a blast, my friends did too! And we all came out with some fabulous finds! With new lines coming out at least twice a year, there’s always something new to add to your Must Have and Wish Lists. I am looking forward to my next party this October; just in time to start Christmas shopping!”

-Andrea, Dallas mom, married with 2 kids

stella_necklaceMY EXPERIENCE:  I love shopping(as long as someone reviews my purchases after I buy but before I wear)but having a friend with me to give me their honest opinion is so much more helpful.  I recently attended a party thanks to my friend Kelli.  She has been a Stella & Dot stylist for a few years and I never knew. After giving me the scoop at a playdate with our daughters, she sent me a catalog and had a party a few weeks later.  I walked in and started browsing.  She has all the jewelry set up to try on and she was able to suggest certain items, show me how some pieces were reversible or could be added/removed to change the look and share her opinion on how things looked on me.  How easy is that!!   PLUS they offer jewelry for girls! Yes, really cute necklaces and bracelets and a few that are similar to “mom” pieces.  Thirty minutes later, I had a new pair of earrings picked out(they are reversible) and ordered a necklace that has three different chains and can be worn over 30 different ways(see picture)!  And yes, my daughter left with an order of her own – a cute necklace with the Eiffel Tower and two other charms.

Thanks to the moms who sent in these great “In Your Opinion” recommendations. Below is the information for our Stella & Dot stylist.
